Mike is a full-time guide who has lived in Star Lake all his life. Mike has been guiding for more than 23 years and covers over 200 lakes in the Vilas County area. Inducted into the Muskies Inc. Hall of Fame, Mike fishes for all species of fish and especially enjoys fishing with children and families. Mike uses an 18-foot Tuffy boat and supplies all the rods, reels and lures. He is available for half and full day outings. He also guides for ducks, geese and grouse.

Set among rolling hills and tall timbers, Plum Lake Golf Club offers challenges to golfers of all levels. This historic course, voted "Best Nine Hole Golf Course in Wisconsin,” features 3,113 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. The course rating is 34.9 and it has a slope rating of 119.

The Club’s popular screened-in, wrap- around porch and wood -hewn chairs beckon patrons to relax after golfing. Further, the Club’s historic clubhouse, which provides lovely views of Plum Lake, is an ideal setting for special events and is available to rent for weddings and other occasions.

A full-service library offering a pleasant adult reading room area with comfortable chairs for relaxing or tables for reading, studying or reference work. The library also provides state-of-the-art computers and high-speed internet access. The children's room provides a wonderful array of stimulating toys and activities for children to enjoy in the library as well as a wonderful selection of books, videos or toy kits to check out.

Special Programs run throughout the year, including a monthly Book Club for adults, Pre-School Story Hours, a Young Librarian Volunteer Program for 6th graders, and more. The Vilas Historical Museum was founded in August of 1959 by Mabel Sayner Dewitt (daughter of Orrin Sayner for whom the town was named). The museum contains more than 40,000 items portraying the history of Vilas County and the surrounding area, including vintage snowmobiles, clothing dating to the 1800s, antique dolls, military memorabilia from the Civil War through Vietnam War eras, ancient Native American artifacts, antique musical instruments as well as historical books regarding the towns of Vilas County and surrounding areas and historical photos of area resorts.

There is an extraordinary collection of snowmobiles, including the original machine built by Carl Eliason in 1924. Exhibits include a 1920's Post Office, clothing, toys, wild animals, outboard motors, fishing guides, CCC photos, logging, area boys' and girls' camps, school, sewing machines and much more. There is a library area offering pictures, books and binders of the area towns & people. A small gift shop features books by local authors and old fashioned toys.

The museum is open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm from Memorial Day weekend through September 30. Admission is $3.00 per person (ages 10 and up). The museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
